Tommee Tippee Review

   When deciding which baby bottles to use with my daughter I did quite a bit of research. My one of my  first bottle purchases I decided to try out were the Tommee Tippee bottles. After reading about them being designed by breastfeeding experts I chose these bottles specifically for the shape of the nipple and Tommee Tippees statement of their nipples were the closest match to a mothers breast. Since I was planning on breastfeeding I felt Tommee Tippee bottles were as close to the shape of a  breast that I could find out in the market. I didn't mind the super-wide shape of the bottles although they did make them a little bulky for the diaper bag. Once my daughter arrived and I began to try out the bottles the issues began. 
   
 The biggest issue I had with the bottles was the collapsing nipples! Every time my daughter attempted to eat not even five minutes into her feeding from them they would collapse and she would begin to cry. Another big issue I was having with this was the leaking. Now, when I say leaking I mean not only from the bottle itself but my daughter had the hardest time getting a good latch with the nipples which caused a constant leak out of the side of her mouth. I always had to have a burp cloth handy to wipe her face, chin and neck several times throughout the feeding. It was my first child, so when she was constantly spilling milk out of the side of her mouth, I thought it was normal, until I saw other babies weren't having that same issue. I contacted the company and they sent me an email reply giving me tips and tricks to try to work out the issues we were having. We struggled for 6 weeks with no progress until I couldn't take it anymore. As soon as I changed the bottle all the dribbling and collapsed nipples stopped! 
   
 I was truly disappointed with these bottles  I would not recommend this product to others until they make some changes to their design of the bottles and nipples. I bought them truly thinking it would be the best to alternate between while breastfeeding but in fact it was just a costly mistake. I do hope that they fix the design because I do like their other products just not pleased with their bottles.

Your Number One Right During Pregnancy!

   One thing I learned nearing the end of my pregnancy was that you NEED to be comfortable with your Doctor and your care. With first time pregnancies I was initially going to a Doctor who at first seemed alright. But further along in my pregnancy when I brought up concerns about my pregnancy he bypassed them as just normal pregnancy symptoms and as a new mom I accepted that and moved on. I felt slighted intimidated by questioning the doctor but something told me it was more then just normal pregnancy symptoms. Finally at the last four weeks of my pregnancy I went in for my appointment and he was discussing how he would handle my labor and delivery. I asked him what it would take pain wise before I could be induced because my pain had become unbearable. My doctor never looked up and replied that he has had smaller woman go past due and push out large babies vaginally just fine so he would just wait and see what happened. He also told me that once in labor I would labor for 18 plus hours before he would consider doing anything more. 


     THAT WAS THE LAST STRAW! I felt judged and disrespected by him for comparing me to others. I felt like there was nothing left to do I went home and proceeded to call other doctors. After calling a few doctors and hearing the same thing about getting my paperwork faxed over and it would be a week before I got an appointment I decided to call my office back and request a change in doctors to another one on site. They happily switched me over to another doctor which I saw there following week. I was relieved upon my next visit I was quite pleased. She allowed me to express my concerns and advised me on different ways to deal with the problems I was having. She even paid attention to my elevated blood pressure and assured me if it was the same the next visit I was to be induced. This is what I was looking for! Someone to take an interest in me as my own being and not just seeing me as a number. I was a human being. This is why I am an advocate for following your gut ( baby in this case..lol)!!

Hi! I’m Giovanni  Welcome to Growing Up Sideways!

My names Giovanni but most call me Gigi. I became a mother to my beautiful baby girl Julianna Elise in March of 2015! I am blessed to be a stay at home mother and decided that blogging was a way to stay in touch with the outside world. Getting to this point in my life has been full of obstacles and sharing them with others allows me to relieve some stress as well as help others who may be dealing with something similar. There’s always a lot happening in our home! Here are a few interesting things about me!


I live for spending quality time with my daughter Julianna. She is my world and my greatest accomplishment in life. I’m also passionate about natural childbirth, breastfeeding, animals, natural hair care, living a greener, healthier lifestyle, couponing, D.I.Y. crafting, baby wearing, & traveling. I eat way too much junk food (transitioning to a healthier lifestyle, slowly but surely) and love a good cup of tea. In the evenings (in between naps and laundry)  you can find me working on craft orders, breaking down coupon deals, planning a moms meet event, searching on pinterest for ideas, or studying for my doula certification. 

I may be young (24 and aging!) but i'm very passionate about helping individuals and families find products or lifestyle choices that  meet their needs and budgets. I will be writing thorough reviews on this blog about my experience with products that my family or  I have used myself.  I enjoy sharing the crafts I create or find as well as just life experiences in general.
